Choosing the right exterior lighting for a home is taking the time to determine your needs. By actually evaluating your needs before making any purchase, you will be able to determine what you need while you are in a lighting store. Otherwise, you can choose lighting that ends up being inefficient and you find that you need to make one or more statements.
Instructions
- Evaluate your needs for outdoor lighting. Do you live in a well-lit area on a busy street, or do you live in a remote place? If you live in a well-populated area with abundant street lights, your landscape lighting needs will not be as great as it will be in a remote area.
- There are two types of outdoor lighting: aesthetic lighting and safety lighting.
- Aesthetic lighting will illuminate beautiful objects in your yard, such as trees, shrubs and decorative accents like fountains.
- Mount the aesthetic lighting on the floor.
- Once assembled, make sure that the light shines up as much as possible while it shines on the object. This lighting position will allow lighting to play with the shadows and create architectural interest.
- You may want to try out colored lights in addition to regular lights for added interest.
Tips & Warnings
- Make sure that all landscape lighting is installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
